CIPR announce new #CIPRdiversity event: Creating Inclusive Cultures in PR

The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and their Diversity and Inclusion Network will run a free event - 'From experience to action; creating inclusive cultures in PR' - on Thursday 9 July, 10:00-11:00am.

The event follows the publications of CIPR's 'Race in PR' report - highlighting an industry in which BAME practitioners are too often unable to access the same opportunities as white colleagues and treated unfairly or inappropriately. It will cover practical advice for businesses and individuals to address the lack of diversity in their workplaces as well as how to get the best out of the diverse talent that exists within the industry.

Speaking at the online event are:

Elizabeth Bananuka - a comms consultant and the founder of BME PR Pros which she describes as ‘one person’s little attempt to promote diversity in the PR and comms sector’. She develops and manages every aspect of the initiative in her spare time including the popular BME PR Pros / PRWeek Mentoring Scheme, the website and the social media channels.

She will be discussing - The Blueprint - a new initiative designed to help organisations attract, retain and nurture diverse talent.

Alex Louis - a specialist in managing communications, marketing and PR teams in local government, education, criminal justice and the NHS. She is trained as a radio journalist and ran a small PR consultancy specialising in housing and voluntary sector.

She will be discussing efforts to address diversity and inclusion challenges in the public sector.

Julian Obubo - Brand Strategy Director at Manifest, a brand communications agency with offices in London, Manchester, Stockholm and New York where he also heads up the diversity and inclusion programme. He was in the 2017 cohort of PR Week's 30 Under 30 and also hosts Manifest’s industry podcast Fresh Meet.

He will be discussing Manifest's efforts to be the first agency to be awarded The Blueprint mark.

The event will be Chaired by Avril Lee MCIPR, Chair of the CIPR’s Diversity and Inclusion Network and Health MD at Red Consultancy and is free to attend, however any donation to the Taylor Bennet Foundation would be greatly received. The Taylor Bennet Foundation is a charity that exists to encourage BAME graduates to pursue a career in communications. You can donate to them here.

Register for the event here.

The event is worth 5 CPD points.
