CIPR President issues statement in solidarity with faith communities
CIPR President, Advita Patel, has issued the following statement:
"Like many of you, I’ve been deeply affected by the heartbreaking news from Manchester and East Sussex over the last few days. A terror attack on a synagogue and an arson attack on a mosque, both places where people should feel safe, respected and protected.
I want to say clearly that the CIPR stands in solidarity with our Jewish and Muslim communities and with everyone who’s feeling scared, angry or heartbroken right now. Hate should have no place in our society, and we all have a role in making sure it doesn’t take root.
As communication professionals, we understand the power of words and the influence we hold. Our responsibility is to use that power to connect, to inform with care, and to build understanding rather than division. What we say and the words we choose to say it, matters.
The work we do must reflect compassion, truth and respect for every person. We have to challenge misinformation and disinformation, call out prejudice and create spaces where people feel seen, heard and safe.
If you’re struggling with recent events, please speak to your peers and colleagues. For our members we also have a mental health hotline which you can use free of charge.
And if you’re an ally, check in on your Jewish and Muslim colleagues, none of us should carry the weight of this alone.
Take care and stay safe."
