More than 300 PR and business professionals gathered at London's County Hall yesterday for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations' 2024 Annual Conference.
Headline sponsored by Notified, the Conference explored the relationship between public relations and politics in a year when almost half the world’s population is taking part in national elections. Chaired by Angela Balakrishnan, Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs for the Information Commissioner’s Office, delegates heard presentations from speakers including presenter and broadcaster - Clive Myrie, the chair of GB Energy - Juergen Maier, Founder of H/Advisors Cicero - Iain Anderson, Party Treasurer of the Liberal Democrats - Tilly McAuliffe, former Chief Digital Communicator for the UK Government - Peter Heneghan, human behaviour consultant - Mark Earls, former minister - Stephen McPartland and many others.
Attendees heard from experts on how to navigate the chaotic news cycle, strategies to engage stakeholders across the political spectrum, creating inclusive cultures, the macro AI landscape and its transformative impact on politics, government, and business, the growing importance of a regional political approach to public affairs, addressing misinformation in the age of social media, the role of behavioural science, and more.
Other sponsors included Cision, Kinura, Muck Rack, PA Mediapoint, and Specialist Speakers.
Sir Stephen Tallents' Medal
The 2024 Sir Stephen Tallents' Medal was announced at the event and has been awarded to Iain Anderson, Founder and Chair of H/Advisors Cicero. Iain Anderson is former Chairman of the Association of Professional Political Consultants and a past Chairman of the CIPR Public Affairs group. In the awarding of this medal, President Rachael Clamp noted Iain's "distinguished career in public relations and his significant contribution to driving positive change and high standards in public affairs".
I am deeply honoured and genuinely thrilled to be the recipient of the Sir Stephen Tallents Medal.
Sir Stephen himself was a trailblazer for great communication and great governance. The CIPR stands for a similar mission. I’m following in the footsteps of giants here - and my career has been lifted up by so many people I have worked with across the industry and my wonderful colleagues and indeed alumni at H/Advisors Cicero.
