CIPR welcomes PR Guild progress

The Guild of Public Relations Practitioners, founded in 2000, has been granted the status of a 'Company without Livery' by The Court of Aldermen of the City of London.

The Guild was required to meet targets for its charitable Trust, membership and governance to achieve this important milestone. It will now pursue the goal of becoming a 'Worshipful Company' which will enable it to play an even greater role in the City and fulfil the commitment made by all Livery companies to charitable endeavour, education and fellowship.

Jonathan Chandler, Guild Master
The Guild creates a focal point for senior professionals that is distinct and therefore complementary to our national industry and professional bodies. We have now established a unique and highly valuable role for PR and public affairs professionals to play within the City and nationally. We have specific goals to advance the contribution our profession makes to society at large, which includes our commitment to supporting charities which have a communication context and stimulating the growth of social enterprise in our sector.

Sue Wolstenholme FCIPR, CIPR President
The advance of the Public Relations Guild is to be welcomed and applauded. It is a further indicator of both the growing status of our profession and its bright future. We look forward to seeing the benefits that its eventual rise to the status Worshipful Company will bring to public relations professionals in the City of London and beyond and to the educational and charitable causes which they support.
